Aye-aye
In the book Last Chance to See, Douglas Adams describes the aye-aye as looking 'like a large cat with bat's ears, a beaver's teeth, a tail like a large ostrich feather, a middle finger like a long dead twig and enormous eyes.' Mark and Stephen were on a quest to find a wild one. This individual lives in a zoo in Madagascar. And Mark met one in the wild again - eventually!
