Pictures of the Month: June 2008

Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia

Mark spent more than two weeks around the Ribbon Reefs, searching for dwarf minke whales. These slightly smaller versions of common minkes (they are thought to form a yet-to-be-named sub-species or species) spend a couple of months each southern winter in this remote corner of the northern Great Barrier Reef. The weather and sea conditions varied from terrible to not so bad (considering it was winter) but Mark did manage to get some underwater shots.
