Join Mark and Rachel for this exclusive and magical trip for just 10 guests! Each year, hundreds of blue whales pass through the tropical waters of Timor-Leste, migrating between feeding grounds off the south-west coast of Australia and what are believed to be breeding and calving areas to the north, in the Banda Sea. Located on the southwest corner of the Coral Triangle (which encompasses Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines and the Solomon Islands), few places in the world offer the chance for such close and consistent encounters with these rare and endangered gentle giants.
October to December is the ideal time to visit, combining favourable weather with peak whale activity as the animals begin their southbound migration.
Timor-Leste’s waters are exceptionally rich in marine life, with at least 10 species of whales and dolphins regularly recorded during this period. These include humpback whales, killer whales, melon-headed whales, short-finned pilot whales, Fraser’s dolphins, spinner dolphins, rough-toothed dolphins and Risso’s dolphins. It is also an excellent time to encounter sperm whales, as they migrate from the Pacific Ocean into the Indian Ocean.
