Mark raced the drone over to capture these feeding fin whales in 2019 in the Sea of Cortez, Baja California, Mexico. The whales’ krill prey rises to the surface around dusk, so this dramatic feeding behaviour – lunge-feeding, when a whale accelerates with its mouth wide open, often on its side – is only then visible at the surface (it happens below the surface all day long).
